African Safari Lodge Prices

African Safari Lodge Prices

Covering some 30-million square kilometres, Africa is enormous, and there are many thousands of safari lodges scattered throughout its national parks, reserves and private conservancies. These lodges cater for the entire spectrum of safari lovers, varying wildly in the facilities and services they offer, so it makes sense that African safari lodge prices differ too.

Not only do African safari lodge prices shift with the seasons, but they also change based on your length of stay and travel party composition. Similarly, they can fluctuate with special offers and if your trip involves stays at sister lodges – and for more reasons besides.

It’s worth noting that there are other costs to consider when planning a safari. Depending on your itinerary, your lodge cost will make up about 75–85% of your total safari costs. The remaining 15–25% will be compiled by transfers, national park and conservancy fees and overnights in city hotels required to make your itinerary work. (We’re not including international flights here as their prices depend on where you’re coming from.)

Consequently, pricing a safari is always a little more complicated than just multiplying the price of a safari lodge by the number of nights you want to stay. To find about more about price ranges for African safari trips, click here.

So, what are African safari lodge prices?

At Art of Safari, we’ve created three safari-lodge categories, with various price ranges: classic safari lodges, luxury safari lodges and ultra-luxury safari lodges. They range from as little as USD400 per person per night sharing to over USD2,000 per person per night sharing.

Comfortable safari lodges

Comfortable safari lodge prices generally start from about USD400 per person per night sharing outside of peak season, ranging up to about USD600 in peak periods. They include comfortable accommodation – often in somewhat larger camps – shared safari activities and good meals; while they don’t have the extras of luxury safaris, they offer a great safari experience at a more economical rate.

Luxury safari lodges

Typically, luxury safari lodge prices start from about USD600 per person per night sharing outside of peak season, increasing to USD950 or more in peak periods. They’re fully inclusive of luxury accommodation in intimate camps, gourmet meals, all drinks (except some premium brands), shared safari activities and more. If you need to reach for your wallet at all, it will be for optional extras like shopping or spa treatments.

Ultra-luxury safari lodges

Broadly speaking, ultra-luxury safari lodge prices start from about USD1,100 per person per night outside of peak season, increasing to USD1,700 and more in peak periods. These are fully inclusive of ultra-luxury accommodation that has been designed by acclaimed architects and interior designers, highly personalised service, all safari activities (sometime with private guides), world-class food, all drinks (except some premium brands) and more. Again, you’ll only need to pay extra for incidentals.

Traveling solo?

The price ranges we’ve outlined above are on a shared basis, where two people share a room. In the case of single travellers, there’s usually a single supplement of 50%. Not all safari lodges charge this however, and if you’re travelling alone we can certainly advise you where you’ll get the best rate.

Our safaris are tailor-made to match your personal safari dream, taking into account when you’d like to travel, how long you’d like to be away for, who you’d be travelling with, what accommodation you’d prefer, how you’d like to get around, what safari experiences you’d like to include, and more.
