Sip on cocktails while you watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean at White Pearl Mozambique.

White Pearl Mozambique | Ponta Mamoli Luxury Mozambique Beach Lodge

The elegant simplicity of White Pearl Mozambique is perfectly suited to its location on a wide sweep of pristine beach on the southeast coast of the country. Enjoy exploring the undersea wonders, or succumb to the temptation to relax and simply soak up the views from this luxury Mozambican beach lodge.

The place

Arriving at White Pearl Mozambique, we get our first glimpse of the Indian Ocean and agree that this is exactly the beachside hideaway we’ve been looking for. A single white boat makes its way towards the equally dazzling beach. The location of this luxury Mozambican beach lodge makes for an enticing prospect. After a warm welcome from the beaming staff, we’re handed a traditional Mozambican R&R cocktail. The cool, red drink competes with the onshore breeze to refresh us. The manager, Liza, walks us through the stylish main area. The marine colours and organic forms of the décor create an indulgent setting for our beach break. I can tell my partner is mentally reserving favourite spots: an oversized daybed by the infinity pool, and a chair in the reading room that looks perfect for falling into with a good book. We love the fresh Ibiza-style vibe of the beach bar – now we know where to come for our next R&R.

The room

A short ride on a White Pearl golf buggy brings us to our beach pool suite. Liza opens the glass doors and we have an uninterrupted view of the sweep of the beach. For a moment, I think I see a dolphin leap in the surf – Liza tells me that this is not impossible, and that on an ocean safari we could even get to swim with them. We’re very taken with the cool ocean hues of the room, and the attention to detail. Having our own deck and plunge pool adds to the sense of privacy, and we even have an espresso machine to help motivate us out of the super-comfortable bed each morning. As we unpack, our butler arrives to discuss our dinner preferences. He points out our private path to the beach. I kick off my sandals and relish the feeling of warm sand running between my toes, and know we’re going to be very happy here.

What sets it apart

We love White Pearl Mozambique’s unspoiled natural surroundings, and we have a sense of being somewhere really remote. At the same time, the journey here was not at all difficult, making it the best of both worlds. The variety of sea and land activities is enough to keep us busy throughout our stay – but we both know that we’ll also be spending plenty of time doing very little. And why not, in such indulgently relaxing surroundings? The polished yet friendly service, and the many different guest spaces, mean that our only dilemma each day will be choosing where to while away our time. This is a lodge that spends its days in boardshorts and bikinis, but dresses up a little for dinner, and we appreciate this balance between the chilled and the sophisticated. White Pearl Mozambique has strong links to the local communities through its ‘Growing Pearls’ programme, and we’re looking forward to a cultural visit to Ponta Mamoli Town – and possibly another R&R when we get there!

When to Go

Mozambique has a tropical climate, with year-round warm temperatures. The cooler, dry winter season is the best time to visit, with temperatures along the coast averaging about 27ºC. It’s sunny, cloudless and the ocean is still pleasantly warm. Migrating humpback whales ply Mozambique’s waters from June to October while sailfish patrol from May to December. Towards the end of this period (from October to December), you’ll have a good chance of seeing whale sharks. If you’re on safari, winter is also the best time to see game.

This is the hot and wet summer season, and it can get pretty steamy and humid in December and January. The average coastal temperature is over 30ºC and rainfall is generally heaviest between December and March. February to March is also cyclone season, but some areas are less affected than others. If you go at this time, be prepared for stormy skies and (fairly brief) downpours. The air is filled with migrant birds now and you can see whale sharks in early summer (October to December). December and January also bring good marlin fishing.
