The Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) is, of course, named for the river in which it’s commonly found. However, this impressive reptile is resident throughout the central belt of the African continent. Travellers who’ve visited the East African safari meccas of Kenya and Tanzania will have seen them in numbers (perhaps feeding on the Great Wildebeest Migration), but they’re also locals in Uganda, Rwanda, Congo, Zambia and Mozambique, and to a lesser extent the Southern African countries of Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and parts of South Africa.
