Female African lions (Panthera leo) – or lionesses – are the primary hunters of the pride. They’re known for working in teams to bring down their prey, but are also capable of hunting alone. After a hunt, the kill is shared with the rest of the pride, usually with a squabbling feeding hierarchy. Lionesses are resident in the safari destinations of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
