The African lion (Panthera leo) is a predator, generally hunting medium-sized prey like antelopes, zebra and wildebeest, but it will attack almost any creature when hungry, from smaller rodents to the imposing rhino. Perhaps surprisingly, lion are also known to scavenge, chasing smaller predators away from their kills. Lion can be found in the safari destinations of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
