When African elephant (Loxodonta africana) are born, they weigh around 110kg and are roughly 900cm tall. Although calves are nursed by their mothers for at least two years – and usually no longer than four – they begin eating plants at around four months of age. You can find African elephant calves in the safari destinations of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Congo, Rwanda, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa.
