Welcome to Kenya! On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met and transferred to Wilson Airport in time for your hour-long flight to Samburu’s Kalama Airstrip. On arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to Saruni Samburu. Settle in, relax and then depart for your afternoon game drive in some 80,000 hectares of pristine wilderness. Enjoy sundowners with breathtaking views before returning to the lodge for dinner.
Rise and shine for your early morning game drive into Samburu National Reserve, where you will seek out the Samburu Special Five: reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, the beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and gerenuk, all rare species that occur only in this part of the country. Don’t forget to be on the lookout for the well-known larger wildlife, including elephant, lion and leopard. Enjoy a picnic lunch before heading back to the lodge to enjoy a complimentary half hour back-and-neck massage at the Samburu Wellbeing Space. Sit back with a cold drink in hand before you savouring your dinner.
Today brings another day to explore the wonders of Samburu with a morning game drive. After lunch possibly head out on a nature walk discovering animals, plants and the local caves with rock paintings, led by your skilful and knowledgeable Samburu guides. Enjoy an evening game drive in the Kalama Conservancy, ending with a bush dinner under the stars in the middle of the wilderness, and a night drive back to the lodge. The Samburu warriors dancing, candles and fire under the vast African skies make this a truly magical experience.
Enjoy breakfast and depart Samburu on a morning flight, arriving in the Masai Mara an hour and a half later. You may choose to immediately go out on a game drive, with a picnic lunch to enjoy under an acacia tree or by the river next to a pod of hippos. Alternatively, if you’d like to freshen up first, head to Saruni Mara for some rest and enjoy an exclusive game drive later in the afternoon in Mara North Conservancy – over 12,000 hectares of plentiful, protected land bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve. Here, enjoy a completely different and less explored corner of the Mara ecosystem, brimming with wildlife – in complete privacy!
Wake up to enjoy an early morning game drive to look for the big cats and other predators of the Mara, returning to camp for lunch and perhaps treating yourself at the Maasai Wellbeing Space. In the afternoon, a game drive will take you to a special area where the largest tower of giraffe can be seen. This will be followed by dinner at camp, and an optional, exciting night drive.
Rise and shine, you’re going to take a walk through the valleys and plains surrounding Saruni Mara, accompanied by a vehicle, or a game drive up to the top of Kilileoni, the highest mountain in the Serengeti-Masai Mara ecosystem. Return to camp for lunch and a siesta before heading off to discover more of Mara North and its neighbouring conservancies. Weather permitting, experience a bush dinner out in nature, under the African sky while watching the Maasai warriors singing and dancing around the crackling fire.
Enjoy breakfast before departing Samburu Mara. On the way to the airstrip, visit the rhino sanctuary and once again you will get to admire the hippo and crocs of the Mara River. From the airstrip, take your flight back to Wilson Airport, where you will be met and transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward travel arrangements.
