This exciting 10-day safari takes in the highlights of Botswana and Zambia. You’ll start off in community-run Khwai Concession in the Greater Okavango, with a beautiful lagoon-front setting perfect for mokoro explorations. Next, you’ll fly to the Linyanti Marsh on the border of the iconic Chobe National Park, land of elephant. Finally, you’ll fly to Zambia, where you can enjoy all the activities that Victoria Falls has to offer.
After clearing immigration and customs on arrival at Maun Airport, a representative will show you onto your flight to Khwai Airstrip. On arrival, you’ll be met by a guide, who will transfer you to your camp. Settle in and let the adventure begin…
Besides the day-time drives that can feature Africa’s big attractions – like lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, hippo and giraffe – guests are able to explore nature after sunset with a night drive. This activity allows guests to get an up-close-and-personal experience with some of Africa’s nocturnal or more elusive animals.
Rise and shine! Today you could explore the great stands of leadwood and mopane woodlands as well as open grasslands and banks of the Khwai River on a walking safari. You can also enjoy a Mokoro Safari where you will glide through the rivers and tributaries with river guides in a dugout canoe, soaking up the peaceful surroundings and encountering an incredible variety of wildlife along the way. (seasonal, when water levels permit).
Depart for your transfer to Khwai Airstrip for your charter flight to Saile Airstrip. On arrival, you will be met by your guide from Linyanti Bush Camp who will transfer you to the camp, where you have been booked to stay for three nights. Here, the marshes are the only water source for miles around and they attract water-adapted and desert-adapted wildlife, plus large numbers of birds.
Wake up to the sound of the birds, enjoy breakfast and hop onto your morning game drive. Linyanti is best known for its large populations of elephant and buffalo that congregate in vast numbers, especially during the dry season. Return to camp for lunch and a siesta before heading out on an open 4×4 vehicle for your evening game drive. Enjoy dinner and a glass of wine around the crackling fire under the African sky.
Today, why not try a guided walk, led by qualified and passionate guides who share their knowledge and love of the bush with you? With the dry vegetation between May and October, walking safaris now are a fantastic and exciting way to experience the area. If the water levels permit, enjoy a mokoro safari where your mokoro is propelled through the shallow waters while you experience wildlife from an unusual point of view.
Depart on your charter flight to Kasane Airport. On arrival, you will be met by a driver who will then transfer you to Thorntree River Lodge, where you have been booked to stay for three nights. You’ll be met and briefed on the camp, the daily schedule, meal times and the activities available to you both at the lodge and in Livingstone Town.
Wake up to experience your two daily activities. You could take a guided tour of the Zambian side of the famous Victoria Falls, visit this spectacle from the Zambian side of the river and experience the thrill of standing on Knife Edge Bridge while thousands of litres of water falls in front of you. Why not end the day on a sunset river cruise on one of the lodge’s own boats, where you’ll have maximum flexibility and freedom to take in the breathtaking sunsets from the river?
Another day and another two daily activities. Perhaps try your hand at fishing, or take a game drive in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park or try a rhino walk. Alternatively, visit the local museum, markets and shops to get a glimpse of historic and modern Livingstone Town or visit the local village and school to learn about the people and culture of this part of Zambia.
Today brings you to the end of your journey, and you will be transferred to Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport in Livingstone for your connecting onward flight.
