Your adventure begins and ends in Kamapala; in between, you’ll get to search for chimpanzees in Kibale National Park, and gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, as well as spend time enjoying the other activities in the areas. Welcome to Uganda! On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to Kampala Serena Hotel, an oasis of cool and green manicured gardens in the heart of Kampala.
Enjoy breakfast and head west through Mubende, arriving in Fort Portal for lunch. Later, proceed to enjoy an afternoon guided walk in the vanilla plantation and around the crater lake for some birding.
Enjoy breakfast before you start your half-day search of the chimpanzees in the forest, also looking out for red colobus monkeys (an endemic species found only in this forest in Uganda) and grey-cheeked mangabey monkeys. In the afternoon, take a swamp walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a closer-to-nature encounter before returning to the lodge.
After breakfast, start a six-hour journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with a picnic lunch en route. After driving through the Ishasha plains – the area famous for its tree-climbing lions – arrive in Buhoma, the Gorilla Staging area. Dinner and overnight will be at Buhoma Lodge.
Have a hearty breakfast then start your gorilla trek with rangers and trackers, through the thick and steep vegetation to your chosen gorilla family. After spending time with the gorillas, enjoy your picnic lunch and return to Buhoma Lodge.
Enjoy the second day of gorilla trekking, this time to a different group of mountain gorillas. Return to the first-class service of the camp for a cool drink while sitting on the viewing deck, overlooking the forest.
Take a scenic drive to Kampala, through the mountainous area of Kigezi and the Ankole area, with its long-horned cattle. Arrive in the city in the evening, and overnight at Kampala Serena Hotel.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before you embark on your transfer to the airport for your onward travel arrangements.
