8-Day Tanzania Safari & Beach | Fly-in Selous Game Reserve & Fanjove Island

Welcome to Tanzania! From Dar es Salaam, embark on a light-aircraft flight into Selous Game Reserve. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred by road to Siwandu, situated on the shores of Lake Nzerakera in the northern section of the reserve. Settle in to enjoy the camp and scheduled game-viewing activities.

Enjoy breakfast then venture out, accompanied by an expert driver guide, travelling in comfort in open-sided 4WD vehicles to explore the rich African wildlife. Walking is also a wonderful way to get close to nature and to learn about some of the smaller species and ecosystems in the reserve, as well as the flora and fauna. Walks are slow paced, with shady stops to hear interesting things from your knowledgeable guide. After the day’s adventures, return for evening drinks around the campfire.

Today, if you are here when the rains have fallen, cruise into the sinuous waterways of the Rufiji River delta, the largest in East Africa, otherwise enjoy Lake Nzerakera in sturdy metal boats with covered canopies, or on the glorious pontoon boat. Savour the ultimate luxury of dining or sipping sundowners on the move, while enjoying the wonderful variety of birdlife and watching animals come down to drink at the water’s edge. Return to camp for dinner and relax around the campfire.

Enjoy an early breakfast then depart Siwandu for the airstrip, where you will hop onto a light-aircraft flight to Songo Songo, the main island of the archipelago to which you are headed. Embark on a 40-minute boat transfer in a traditional dhow sailing boat to get to Fanjove Island for your stay. Settle in and let pure relaxation begin.

Wake up to experience exceptional snorkelling in these warm waters. Butterfly fish, angelfish, damselfish, turtles and beautiful coral offer endless possibilities. Hop on a kayak or a SUP or enjoy an island walk while you do some bird watching. For an additional cost, you could spot some dolphin on a marine safari – you may even have the opportunity to swim alongside them. At low tide, enjoy lunch on the secluded sandbank, keeping an eye out for those dolphins swimming by as your lunch is prepared in front of you. End your day with a sundowner sailing on the dhow.

Today brings another day to explore. Perhaps you could try your hand at catching a barracuda or a kingfish, or maybe you’d like to explore the island on foot, Robinson Crusoe style. Explore the nearby island of birds and the high cliffs from the water on a kayak, or just relax on your own private island while reading your book.

After spending the day at leisure or on an adventure, relax in the open-air restaurant and lounge area, the ideal focal point at the end of the day from where to gaze at the starlit skies and appreciate the undisturbed surroundings. Appetising fusion cuisine is served on understated yet stylishly dressed tables on the beach.

Enjoy breakfast, then depart Fanjove Island by dhow to Songo Songo, where you will take a light-aircraft flight back to Dar es Salaam for your onward travel arrangements.
