13-Day South Africa | Self Drive Cape Town & Peninsula, Oudtshoorn, Plettenberg Bay & Greater Addo Elephant National Park

Start this epic adventure with four days exploring Cape Town. On your fifth morning, your hire car will be delivered, and your self-drive caper begins. First stop, the winelands of Stellenbosch. Next, one night visiting the ostriches and caves in Oudtshoorn, three nights at the beach in Plettenberg Bay and two nights game watching at Addo Elephant National Park. Finally, make your way to Port Elizabeth to return your vehicle.

Welcome to Cape Town! You’ll be met on arrival – as you disembark the aircraft or airport bus, depending on if the aircraft is in the terminal or on the apron – and assisted through immigration, baggage collection and customs. You’ll then be shown to your awaiting transfer vehicle, and you’ll embark on a private road transfer to your accommodation.

Enjoy breakfast before you set off on your day half-day Cape Town City tour. Wonder at the fine old buildings representing various cultures over the years. Explore the Castle of Good Hope, South Africa Museum and more. Visit Table Mountain and weather permitting, you can ascend to 1000m above sea level on the aerial cableway to enjoy views over the city and peninsula (cable way ticket not included due to weather).

After breakfast, depart Stellenbosch and travel along Route 62 to Oudtshoorn – the ‘feather capital’ of the world, situated in the Klein Karoo between the Swartberg and Outeniqua mountains. Check into your accommodation in the afternoon and spend the evening at your leisure.

After breakfast, take time to explore the area. The world’s biggest bird is just one of the many attractions in this naturally beautiful area; the region is also home to the spectacular Cango Caves, a 20-million-year-old network of limestone chambers. After breakfast at the lodge, depart to continue your adventure, taking a four-hour drive to reach your destination. North of the Addo Elephant National Park, along the Blue Crane Route, lies Kuzuko, home to the Big Five and some of Africa’s most famous wild animals. Enjoy your welcome drink on arrival and settle in to the lodge.

Wake up to the sounds of the bush. Today all your meals are at the lodge, including early morning tea or coffee, breakfast, a light finger lunch and a four-course dinner. Your two daily activities could include a day and night game drive or a guided bush walk.
