10-Day Kenya | Family Amboseli National Park, Lake Naivasha & Masai Mara National Reserve

Spend two nights in Kenya’s bustling capital of Nairobi visiting David Sheldrick’s elephant orphanage and the Giraffe Centre before setting off on your family safari. First up is elephant watching in Amboseli, followed by two nights absorbing the beauty of Lake Naivasha and its famed flamingos. Finally, your family has a full three nights game viewing in the magical Masai Mara, home to all of the Big Five and much, much more.

Arrive in Nairobi, Kenya, where your guest representative will meet and assist you through immigration and customs. Your guest manager will then take you to Hemingways Nairobi by private vehicle. Here you’ll enjoy a ‘welcome’ safari briefing, with rest of day at leisure.

After breakfast at the hotel, set off on your day excursion in and around Nairobi, starting with the David Sheldrick elephant orphanage, where you can watch delightful orphan elephants during feeding time while they frolic with their keepers. Enjoy lunch at a nearby café followed by a shopping stop at Utamaduni, where you’ll see a great selection of African art and crafts. Continue to the Giraffe Centre, where you’ll have the opportunity to feed magnificent Rothschild’s giraffes before returning to Hemingways Nairobi.

After breakfast at Hemingways Nairobi, you’ll set off in your 4WD vehicle towards Namanga with your safari guide. As soon as you enter Amboseli National Park, your game viewing will commence. After lunch at Amboseli Serena Lodge, limitless adventures, discoveries and delights await young guests, with activities designed to give them the chance to explore the breathtaking beauty of Amboseli and enjoy the vibrant culture and warm hospitality of the Maasai people. If you accept an invitation to plant an acacia tree as part of the Amboseli Reforestation Project you’ll receive a commemorative certificate. Return to Amboseli Serena Lodge for dinner.

Set off early on your morning game drive in anticipation that Mount Kilimanjaro’s snow covered peak is clear, and enjoy a private family breakfast at Observation Hill. Later, enjoy an afternoon game drive around the many lakes and springs fed by Kilimanjaro’s melting snows in search of Amboseli’s legendary elephant herds. Spend as little or as long as you like on safari in your private vehicle. Children can participate in guided nature walks as well as learn about the Maasai warriors, how to do Maasai beadwork and all about animal-tracking techniques. Flexible dining schedules are available to suit your family, with lunch and dinner at Amboseli Serena Lodge.

Continue to the lakes in the Great Rift Valley, some of the oldest, largest and deepest lakes in the world. Arrive at Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake close to Lake Nakuru, the alkaline shallow soda lake whose white shores, from the crystallised salts, are famous for flocks of flamingos. Spend the rest of the day exploring the area with your safari guide, who will arrange some special activities.

After breakfast at Governors’ Loldia House, visit nearby Lake Nakuru National Park, known for its flamingos and as a breeding sanctuary for both black and white rhino. Here, enjoy a guided trek along the lakeshore and a game drive. You can relax with a picnic lunch before returning to your lodge, or you may venture a little further to Lake Baringo and spend the day bird and game viewing around the lake with a picnic lunch at the hot springs. Dinner is at Governors’ Loldia House.

After breakfast at Governors’ Loldia House, drive along the Great Rift Valley floor and enter Masai Mara National Reserve, where you immediately begin game viewing, passing wildlife herds on the vast savannah plains. Arrive at Governors’ Camp, with its family tents, in time for lunch followed by a late afternoon game drive. Dinner is at Governors’ Camp.

Enjoy a full day of exceptional game viewing in the Masai Mara following herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, eland, topi, impala and many other species. Your guide can arrange an extended game viewing drive, travelling further from other vehicles and visitors with a picnic lunch provided from your camp. All other meals are taken at Governors’ Camp, including a special dinner under the stars.

Experience another full day of game viewing in this game-rich area. You’ll notice that lion, leopard and cheetah are found here in greater numbers and density than elsewhere in Africa. After enjoying a picnic lunch, you’ll return to your safari lodge in the late afternoon, with time to rest before dinner.

After a final morning game drive, take breakfast at Governors’ Camp before your transfer to the airstrip and flight to Wilson Airport in Nairobi. Here, a representative will meet and transfer you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward travel arrangements.
